Small Groups and serving

We all have an engrained desire to serve and contribute, a need for continued growth and learning, and a craving for friendship and support of a diverse but like-minded community. Our Sunday gatherings are a celebration of unity and worship of the many smaller communities across our body, but the deeper connection and growth happens outside of those gatherings.
To help you find a community that meets the needs of serving, growth, and supportive friendship, check out the details and purpose of each of our various "small group" communities below.


Adult Sunday School, led by Bruce Romeyn
Sundays @ 9:30am
Church office/meeting room
- This is a traditional, adult Sunday School group that studies and discusses a book of the Bible, one chapter per week, until finished and then moves on to a new book. While the group runs longterm, year-round, new members are encouraged to join.
Brides of Christ, led by Debbie Holmes (and other members of the group)
Sundays @ 9:30am
Bridal Suite (room formerly used as a bridal suite, across from front bathrooms)
- This is an open, traditional Sunday School for women that follows the daily devotional and Bible reading plan, "Give Him 15". Members study on their own during the week and discuss the week's readings together to better understand what God is saying in His word. While the group runs longterm, year-round, new members are encouraged to join.
Proverbs Study, led by Daryl Thornton
Wednesdays @ 6:00pm (through Dec 2022)
Bridal Suite (room formerly used as a bridal suite, across from front bathrooms)
- This group is a year-long deep dive into Proverbs, focused on getting a close understanding at how God wants to work in His children and the real life benefits of a close relationship with our Lord. It is welcome to all ages and is open discussion.
Kingdom Hearts Discipleship Group, led by Li Ray and Nona Sue Higginbotham
Thursdays @ 2pm

- This group seeks to bring women together in a community to strengthen and support each other, while bringing their hearts closer to God. The current study is "Mended: Pieces of a Life Made Whole" by Angie Smith. They are studying and discussing a chapter each week. After this study, they will be breaking and mending their own pitchers.

Stover's Life Group, Led by Zak and Ashley Stover
Wednesdays, 6-8pm (meal at 6pm, discussion at 7pm)
Location changes to different homes of group member, contact 931-310-6915
- This group is centered around building trusting relationships with families and individuals for whatever season of life that they are in. The group is just getting started and welcoming anyone that wants to join for community and fellowship. Childcare is provided at this group.

Men's Breakfast, led by William Olinghouse
Thursdays @ 8:30am
Various restaurants around town
- This group meets around open discussions on particular topics to encourage, disciple, and model a follower of Christ. Most members are retired or have flexible morning schedules.
Simply Women, led by Kimberly Smith
3rd Thursday at 6pm
- We are a group of women with a heart for each other and a passion to serve. Contact Kim Smith for more details (

Art Flow, organized by Sarah Nelson
Wednesdays at 7pm
COTH auditorium/sanctuary, All experience levels welcome
- Bring your own creative project: painting, needle crafts, scrapbooking, stained glass, building a model, etc... "One great tool that God had given us is creativity! We're made in the image of God, and like Him, we're meant to be 'creators'. God has invited us to engage our creative selves." Participants work on their own projects while the COTH worship team has band practice.
These groups may serve together within the local church body or out in the community and are a great way to work alongside and get to know other members. Serving groups may be open to new volunteers or closed based on needs.
Prayer and Altar Team, led by Karen Ritacco

Prayer Room/Sanctuary
- Members of this team are available to pray with anyone that desires to be lifted and encouraged in prayer before, during, or after Sunday service. They also pray over our children's ministry in classrooms before service. The prayer wall in the prayer room is made available the prayer team for anyone to add requests or update with praise reports at any time. Worship Team, led by Cody Hawkins
- This team consists of musicians and media/sound technicians that have a heart to serve our church body, not only through music, but also uplifting, encouraging, and speaking life into members through word or song. The team meets to practice, connect, and pray together twice each week.
Door Greeter Ministry, led by Bill and Lynn Barnhill
- This team rotates each Sunday to welcome church members and visitors at the main entrance before service and through worship. To serve as a door greeter, talk to Bill and Lynn Barnhill.
Children's Ministry, led by Jennifer Peek
- We have four age groups in our children's ministry; infant, toddler, PreK/K, and Elementary. Volunteers in this ministry do not need to be gifted in the area or skill of teaching but have a desire to show love and mentor kids through their example and spending time with them. Volunteers serve one or two services per month, from 10:30 to 12:00 during the Sunday morning service. To volunteer, talk to individual classroom leaders or Jennifer Peek.
Youth Ministry, led by Joe Miller and Zak Stover
- Middle school meets on Sunday mornings after worship, in the youth room across from the main sanctuary. To volunteer, talk to Joe Miller.
Freedom Prayer/Inner Healing Ministry Team, led by Shirley Venkataramen
- Freedom Prayer team members are trained in intercessory/inner healing prayer to walk individuals needing clarity or breakthrough in their life through through simple but powerfully intimate conversations with God. Team members participate in trainings and studies together to continue learning and deepening their own relationship and communication with God.
The focus of these types of groups will be 100% outside the local church body to meet needs in the community.
Butterfly Blessings Ministry Volunteer Group, led by Pam Russell
Special event dates and needs announced on Sundays
- This ministry builds, sets up, and monitors 24/7 food boxes around Putnam County. Volunteers help with food drives and free grocery shopping days.
